During the regional visit to Liepāja, the Norwegian Chamber of Commerce in Latvia and the Norwegian Embassy in Riga had the honour of visiting Liepāja Municipality and meeting with the Mayor of Liepāja Gunārs Ansiņš, adviser Santa Margeviča and Liepāja Special Economic Zone Authority CEO Uldis Hmielevskis to learn more about the city’s ambitious development vision and future priorities.
The presentation highlighted Liepāja’s transformation into a modern, innovative and internationally oriented city — combining the advantages of a strong industrial base, strategic infrastructure and a dynamic cultural environment.
Particularly inspiring was the city’s commitment to becoming a Climate-Neutral and Smart City by 2030, as well as the large-scale development projects currently shaping Liepāja’s future — including new residential districts, expansion of the port and industrial areas, the transformation of former industrial territories into green industrial parks and preparations for Liepāja 2027 – European Capital of Culture.
The meeting provided insights into the city’s long-term vision, investment potential and commitment to sustainable growth, innovation and international cooperation.
