At the end of 2019, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia was 6.2 percent of the economically active population, up 0.4 percentage points from November 2019, the State Employment Agency informed LETA. At the end of December a total of 57,808 unemployed people were registered with the Employment Agency, up from 53,783 unemployed people registered with the agency at the end of November.
The lowest unemployment rate was registered in Greater Riga - 4.3 percent, which is up 0.4 percentage points from November, while the highest unemployment rate was registered in Latgale province - 13.8 percent, which is 0.5 percentage points more than in November.
In the meantime, the registered unemployment rate in the Zemgale was 6.3 percent, up 0.6 percentage points, in Kurzeme - 7.2 percent, growing 0.8 percentage points, and in Vidzeme the registered unemployment rate rose 0.3 percentage points to 5.9 percent.
According to the Employment Agency, unemployment rate in Riga was 34 percent at the end of December 2019, which is up 0.3 percentage points from a month ago.
