NCCL and AmCham Members Debate How to Promote Brain Gain
31 January 2020
On the 28th of January close to 50 participants joined a visit to TietoEVRY offices in Riga for a discussion "From brain drain to brain gain" organized jointly by the Norwegian and American Chambers of Commerce and the Association for Business Service Leaders in Latvia (ABSL).
The event brought in a full house -members of NCCL, AmCham and ABSL, who had the opportunity to hear Fredis Bikovs (Tieto EVRY), Janis Kreilis (Your Move) and Anita Kehre (Printify) as they shared their experience of recruiting employees in Latvia and abroad.
During the three presentations, several important topics related to this subject where brought up. Participants heard about employer branding and practical tips from the experience of Tieto EVRY in using unconventional methods of reaching their target audiences. Company "Your Move", which connects Latvian and foreign professionals to companies in Latvia, shared the most common misconceptions about Latvian re-migrants in other words Latvians living abroad who have decided to resettle back home. Whereas, Anita Kehre of Printify shared her experience of hiring specialists from the third countries.
Although there have been many improvements in the legal framework and procedures, there are still a number of obstacles in attracting specialists from abroad, concluded discussion participants. One of the biggest hurdles is the lack of clear and coherent information for third country nationals and one central institution in Latvia, which would address the many challenges in attracting high-skilled labour from abroad. The presentations provoked an interesting discussion that continued well after the presentations.
Big thanks to all the speakers, our hosts - TietoEVRY and co-hosts Your Move, as well co-organizers AmCham Latvia and ABSL!
