Kaspars Rozkalns to head Latvian Investment and Development Agency
08 January 2020Kaspars Rozkalns, an employee at the Latvian Investment and Development Agency, has won the competition to become the agency's new head, LETA was told at the State Chancellery. The winner of the tender has been approved by Economics Minister Ralfs Nemiro (KPV LV) and is due to take office on January 20.
After a meeting with the agency's new head, Nemiro said that one of Roznkalns' most important tasks will be to deal with issues concerned with boosting Latvia's international competitiveness. "Together with entrepreneurs' organizations and social partners we have identified the areas where improvements are needed to promote innovation and productivity, facilitate exports and attract investment. I expect the Latvian Investment and Development Agency's director to work out and implement a plan aimed at taking the Latvian economy to the international level and ensuring sustainable growth. In the long term, this should also improve the life standards of Latvia's residents," the economics minister said.
Speaking of his priorities, Rozkalns mentioned support to knowledge-based businesses, which would raise Latvia's international competitiveness and profile. Rozkalns envisages developing the Investment and Development Agency as an open, transparent and proactive one-stop agency for entrepreneurs.
From 2010, Rozkalns was sales and marketing head at Linearis company and headed the company from 2012 to 2015. Parallel to his job at Linearis, he also headed commerce channels at MCB FInance Latvia and the Linearis branch office in China. In 2015, Rozkalns joined the Latvian Investment and Development Agency as head of the agency's representation in Shanghai. Since 2018, he has been heading the agency's representation in Germany.
Rozkalns holds a bachelor's degree in advertising and media from the University of Latvia and a master's degree in business management from Turiba University. Rozkalns is fluent in English and Russians and also has a good command of German. The government agency's previous head Andris Ozols left his post on November 22.
The Economics Ministry decided not to renew the contract with Ozols who has been heading the Investment and Development Agency for 15 years.
Subordinated to the Minister for Economics, the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) is tasked with promoting exports and competitiveness of Latvian companies, facilitating foreign investment and implementing tourism development and innovation policies.< Back to news
