Concert with young talents under the sign of Edvard Grieg

The competition of young performers took place for the seventeenth year, in this year under the sign of the outstanding Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg.

The Norwegian music is chosen for the obligatory part of the programme.
Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music hosted the XVII Competition of Latvian Music Schools Wind and Percussion Instrument Players end of January, representing 55 music schools from Latvia. 209 young musicians in 15 instrument groups took part in the Competition, organized by the Association of the Latvian Youth Brass Band, with the support from the Riga City Council, the Norwegian Embassy in Latvia, the State Culture Capital Foundation and Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music.


A concert of the winners Bravo-Bravissimo was held in the Great Hall of the University of Latvia

The competition was supported by the Norwegian Embassy in Latvia. Steinar Hannevold (solo oboist of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Associate Professor of Grieg Academy) and Arild Andersen (flute player from Skien) was among the jury.
Janis Purins, Chairman of the Jury: "The popularity of the competition is a successful solution for professional orientation. Many of the competition winners have become professional musicians, soloists, and we know that one of the first steps in their career has been in this competition."
