All employees might receive idle time benefits if their company faces problems because of Covid-19

26 March 2020

The Cabinet of Ministers will discuss payment of idle time benefits to all employees of companies if their turnover has dropped due to the outbreak of Covid-19, LETA learned from the Finance Ministry.

On Wednesday a work group discussed the negative impact of restrictive precautionary measures on Latvia's national economy. The work group in cooperation with the Economics Ministry, the Latvian Employers Confederation (LDDK) and the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry achieved an agreement on a universal criterion for industries to apply for support measures in dealing with consequences from the Covid-19 crisis. The criterion is a 30 percent turnover drop. Finance Minister Janis Reirs (New Unity) informed that the group members agreed that there will be some companies that will receive state support also if their turnovers drop 20 percent. "Those will be exporting companies, companies with high productivity and high wages, companies that have made significant long-term investments in fixed assets," said the minister.
